Miss Africa USA demands ‘solid protection’ for youths after Alabama ‘sweet 16’ mass shooting

Snit Tewoldemedhin, the recently crowned Miss Africa-USA has urged the government to build a solid protecting for the youths as she responded to a mass shooting at the ‘sweet 16’ birthday celebration in Alabama over the weekend that killed four while 28 others were injured.

Tewoldemedhin, who made the request shortly after the deadly incident, emphasized that many innocent lives have been sacrificed as a result.

In a shooting that broke out on Sunday at a late-night ‘Sweet 16′ birthday celebration at a dance studio in the small town of Dadeville.

According to reports, the celebration took place inside the Mahogany Masterpiece Dance Studio, a former bank that is located in Dadeville, a hamlet of roughly 3,200 people, about a half-block from the city hall.

Our correspondent found out through research that the massacre in Alabama was the third prominent mass shooting following distinct outbreaks of fatal gun violence in Tennessee and Kentucky, in just two weeks .

According to the Gun Violence Archive, there have been more than 163 mass shootings in the United States so far in 2023.

This development however had prompted local leaders to call for tighter gun control measures.

The President Joe Biden called the rising gun violence in the United States “outrageous and unacceptable” in a statement on Sunday. He urged the U.S. Congress to pass laws that would increase the liability of gun manufacturers for gun violence, outlaw assault weapons and high-capacity ammunition magazines, and mandate safe storage of firearms and checks on gun buyers’ backgrounds.

Yellow crime-scene tape has been used to contain the area in the interim.
